WHAT YOU WILL NEED

COUNTERWEIGHTS

Dumbbell weights are the best solution, as they come in different increments and are very compact, so when you find your perfect combination it makes life easy. Other things also work, but the more compact and non-free moving the better. For fine-tuning, using the Lock Jaw Collar clamps moving the weights closer and further away you can achieve perfect balance.

QUICK RELEASE/BASEPLATES.

Coupled with the DSLR-CRANE, can make setup a lot faster and easier. In most cases the supplied 5mm bolts will mount directly to your chosen base plate.

TRIPOD/VIDEOHEAD

Tripod needs to be strong and stable, the head is possibly more important than the Tripod, when used with a good quality and sturdy fluid head (such as manfrotto 501) you can produce silky smooth pans and with practice you can achieve dramatic tilting actions with the camera as you go from high to low or vice versa. It’s also important that the head has a either adjustable friction/resistance or good lock out feature.

As with any equipment you use with your precious and at times expensive DSLR, caution and care for camera/equipment and yourself must be taken. when dealing with the counter weights, unpredictable changes of center of balance may occur so be careful of fingers getting trapped or DSLR’s falling is another thing we don’t want to happen, so be cautious at all times, as with any type of camera crane or larger equipment you use.
